User Reviews about Verbatim 96542 8.5 GB 8x-10x Double Layer Recordable Disc DVD+R DL - 30 Disc Spindle
I purchased (2) 30-disc spindles and the first had quite a few burn problems, at least 8 but since those I haven't had any others. In past purchases of Verbatim DVD DL discs I haven't had many issues at all, far better than other brands but those 8 bad burns are a pretty significant portion of a 30 disc spindle so that is a problem, and a major waste of time and money. I'm guessing that one spindle was just part of a bad batch and this second spindle was from a different batch, who knows. The optical disc industry really have a scam going on and with blu-ray not coming down in price it's obvious we're in for more of the same, only to waste $20+ on one bad burn.
I recommend Verbatim DVD+R DL discs over other brands but they're not perfect. -- Generally Good but a few Coasters
If you don't have an ace burner and/or don't want to put up with any frustrating coasters, Verbatim's there to give you top quality for a little extra cash. I've burned around 100 verbatim disks in the past couple years and haven't had a single failed disk. Protip - the "made in singapore" verbatims are the best (not that the others are bad or anything). If you buy from a store, check the label for this. If you buy from here, well I can't speak for everyone, but I was sent a MIS spindle.
Bottom line though, if you're willing to pay a little extra, verbatim's got your back. Especially important when it comes to tricky dual-layered burning. -- Can't go wrong with Verbatim
I bought this on sale - $31 for 30 discs. It's a great deal for high quality discs. I use them for the xbox 360, and haven't had a coaster. I burn them at 2.4x so I honestly don't know how they fair at higher burn speeds. -- Great!!
These have worked great. They are solid discs and I haven't had a single burning problem with any of them so long as I burn on or below 8x with my drive.
Definitely recommend! -- Solid burning media
This review compares my experience over hundreds of burns using "high-speed" (8x or 10x) Double Layer media by Memorex, Maxell and Verbatim.
DEFECT RATE. Coaster production:
Maxell: 1 - 2.5%
Memorex: 1.5 - 4%
Verbatim: 0.5 - 1.5%
SPEED. Cruising burn speed:
Maxell: 8x
Memorex: 10x
Verbatim: 12x
DURABILITY. Significant degradation or total unplayability one year after successful initial burn:
Maxell: (inadequate sample)
Memorex: 5-7%
Verbatim: 1.5-3%
COST. As of this writing, here are unit prices for the 25-30pk spindles:
Memorex: 0.76
Maxell: 0.99 (+30%)
Verbatim: 1.13 (+49%)
SUMMARY. Based on my priorities, Verbatim wins hands-down.
